Tips for before school starts:

Don’t worry about getting in to see your doctor on time! Our pharmacists have their Additional Prescribing Authority, which allows them to refill your medication without you needing to see your doctor. To make the most of your time, download our Medicine Shoppe app and request your refills from your phone. It saves you time waiting at the pharmacy for them!

Tips for when your kids are at school:

Inhalers, EpiPen’s, and any other medical devices: A good rule of thumb, one for home and one for school! Instead of relying on yourself and your child to remember to cart it around everywhere, speak with your child’s homeroom teacher to leave one there. The same goes for the medication your child may need to take during school hours. Ask us to give you a separate bottle or vial with a prescription label on it. This way the instructions are clear, and teachers and supervisors know what it is and what to give.

Does your child have diabetes? Managing your child’s blood sugars when they are at school can get a little tricky. Book an appointment to speak with our Certified Diabetes Educator about how to best manage your child’s blood sugars when they go back to school. Our diabetes educator can help you create a plan of what to do if blood sugars should get too low or too high and ways to keep them on track.

Tips for when cold and flu season kicks in:

First, get your flu vaccine (available the third week of October). Second, practice good health habits like washing your hands, especially before lunch and snack breaks. And if your child does get sick, keeping them at home will not only help them get better quicker, it will help to stop the spread of germs to others.

Looking for other back to school health tips? Just stop in and speak with our pharmacy team, they are always happy to help!
