There can be a lot of information shared with you in one day. Remembering it all can be exhausting and overwhelming, but we understand! Your Pharmacist wants to make sure that you are comfortable and understand your current health, your health goals and your medications. It is extremely beneficial to you and your long-term health if you know the ins and outs of what is going on with YOU! The Canadian Patient Safety Institute has compiled the best 5 questions to ask about your medications.
Are there any changes? Have any medications been added, stopped or changed, and why?
What medications do I need to keep taking, and why?
How do I take my medications, and for how long?
How will I know if my medication is working, and what side effects do I watch for?
Do I need any tests and when do I book my next visit?
Discuss these questions when you see your pharmacist, doctor or nurse. It is important to establish a good relationship with your entire healthcare team. This allows them to work with you to ensure you get the best possible health care. Your personal pharmacist will make sure you understand all your medications and ensure you take them properly.
A pharmacist’s role continues after you receive your medication as well. They want to follow up with you and see that your prescription is meeting your needs. You should feel comfortable and confident with your medication whenever you leave your doctor’s office or pharmacy.
If other questions arise, your pharmacist is always available either in-store or on the phone to help you with any concerns or provide you with the information you need. You can even book an appointment for a one-on-one medication review to thoroughly review your medications and supplements.
